Doon: Heritage village roots with Grand River trails and living history
Doon is one of Kitchener’s most layered and characterful neighbourhoods. Its origins trace to a small mill village settled around 1800 at the confluence of Schneider Creek and the Grand River. Today it blends genuine heritage with modern suburban living across several sub-areas — from the almost-rural ‘Old Doon’ along the river to newer residential sections. Homer Watson Park anchors outdoor life with extensive Grand River trails, the Doon Valley Golf Course, and remarkable wildlife. Doon Heritage Village and the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum sit within the area. It’s one of the most culturally rich communities in the Region.
